Friends Are God's Way Of Apologizing For Your Family

I love Wayne W. Dyer! He was such a kind soul. This is probably one of my top 5 quotes.
I don’t mean to be unfair to God, but they might have realised that our expectations when it comes to family are naturally pretty high, which can lead to tremendous disappointment. BUT luckily for us, friends came along to rescue us!
Another one of our family members is our Honduran queen, and lovely human being, Wendy. It’s insane, but we almost didn’t become family-friends! I basically had to stalk her hahahahahaha. Of course, she eventually gave in, and we built an incredible bond. We did so much together while on this unique island. It also helped that living in the Caribbean is breathtaking, believe me, the views are out of this world. Roatan has a lush nature, and it is available to everybody. I have seen the Mediterranean, Hawaii’s Pacific Ocean, and Playa del Carmen, but nothing is as impactful as their reefs. Even work felt like a vacation; we would have meetings while drinking Salvavidas (local beer), and my kids had never been more relaxed and carefree. They have spectacular memories from that time, and we are deeply grateful for all of it. It was a time when Val’s character grew stronger, and he is so fond of that special island in the Caribbean. For these reasons and more, we must include Roatan in our family's history.
Our love for animals made my bond with Wendy tight as fudge, and we constantly volunteered for spay and neuter clinics for World Vets and Florida Vets (we would bring Val too). So funny! Having to convince grown men to allow their male dogs to say goodbye to their balls! We drove to the deepest parts of the island to make a difference; I had never felt more alive. Wendy gave me what I had been missing for years, a female friend who needed me as much as I needed her. Don’t get me wrong, my Guatemalan friends are my sisters too, but after they got married, I got lonelier. Besides, Wendy tells me that she had one life before meeting me and another one (better) after she met me. That explains a little of how much we uplift each other. We have so much in common, including difficult biological mothers.
Oh! And while in Roatan, my adoptive mother came to visit me! She was the strong, loving mother figure in my life. If it hadn’t been for her, I would have completely lost myself when I was in my early twenties. I first learned about staying present through her, and she made our lives better in every single way. She was Filipino-American, but felt more Latina than most of the people I knew. Her name was Nacida (to be born).
I strongly suggest you visit Roatan, but please, the priority has to be the Iguana Farm. Mr Sherman is the founder, and he is the David Attenborough of the island. They survive mostly from donations, and the work they have done with so few resources is admirable. He is so lovely and even took us on a private boat ride around the reefs as a thank you for Wendy’s kindness towards him. Kindness pays off.
